Knowing or Not Knowing

There are many things in life that we may not know or never know. However, there are some things that we know and can do something about it. Weight loss, for example, is one thing that we know we all can make some small changes daily for effective weight loss.

I can decicide today that I will only eat food that are good for my body. I can also decide to eat junk food that I know are not good for my body. Whatever decisions we make in life, we have to remember that we have 'only one life to live' and we owe to ourselves to live it well and with dignity.

This past weekend I made a lot of food. Later on, I thought the food must have been enough for ten people. Well, I am glad I did. I know I am not going to buy junk food anytime soon.

Try Something Different

Losing weight can become boring if nothing new is incorporated. What has worked for me is to check in with a friend on a weekly basis. I also try to cook different foods each week to make it interesting. This week I bought chicken legs which I will prepare and post later today. I also bought a different kind of pumpkin. The mind can make us feel that life is not exciting if things remain the same. Try a different workout. This week I tried Boot Camp which was extremely difficult and challenging.

What's Your Motivation?

There are so many diets today that it can be confusing which one is correct or to follow.  I have come to realize that people can give their opinions, their diets, write books, but at the end of the day, it is you and me whose lives are at stake. This is what has helped me. I imagine myself looking good and healthy at 60,  70, 80 and 105. I take care of myself today in preparation for that time.

I know the changes I have made in my lifestyle is paying off today. I am enjoying what I do. I feel it is part of my life now. I am not under any obligation. I just do it. It feels right. I eat when I am hungry not angry. I wish you all the best and success in finding what you love to do in terms of exercise and healthy foods. http://weightlossandculture.com/

Small Changes Daily is the Key

Making small changes to your daily food in take is the key to permanent weight loss. Small changes on exercise is also important. Weight loss can be fun if it is taken as a lifestyle change than work. Change is hard, but beneficial in the long run. http://weightlossandculture.com/

Fear or Excuse

My most fear over the years is failure. I had tried on and off losing weight that I thought I could never make it. I was wrong. I am now able not only to lose weight, but to maintain it. I have learned that losing weight is not one tactic. It is a lifestyle change. It is a change that only me can make it work. I have to be open with my inner self and believe that I can do it-and I have. You too can do it!

Lentils - Good for the Heart

http://weightlossandculture.com/?p=1321 I enjoy cooking and now, more than ever, I cook foods that are nutritious and healthy. I also cook foods that are low in calories and carbohydrates. Lentils is beneficial to the heart, fiber and many more. It is also cheap and easy cook unlike other beans. Lentils does not need to be soaked overnight. It cooks within 40 minutes. You can use different spices to make it tasty. You can include: sweet peppers, onions, tomatoes, peppers, carrots(if you like cooked). You can eat with brown rice, squash or mixed vegetables.

  • I am no longer diabetic, no big deal, so many people are not diabetic, but mine was a miracle and lifesaving.

When is a good time for the gym?

I used to go to the gym at 4:00 am and go to work after that. Now I go to the gym at 8:00 pm and have lots of energy thereafter. I am not able to fall asleep until after 1:00 am. This has completely affected my sleep pattern and weight loss progress.

When is the best time to work out? People have different options. For those who work away from home, workout after regular job could be a preference. While those who work at home, morning or evening maybe a choice.  http://weightlossandculture.com/?p=1305
This is my book coming out this month. I have shared my struggles, disappointment, despair and depression because of being overweight. Will keep you posted.

Substitute for White Potatoes

White potatoes are high is starch and calories. I discovered a new starch today. I used to know it as pumpkin and it was green, similar to green water melon.  However, I found it in the stores as potato. See it here before it was cooked and after it is cooked. It has natural sweetness. You can eat with tea, beans or by itself.  Preparation - Cut into small pieces. Boil for 20 minutes. You can eat the skin but not the seeds. http://weightlossandculture.com/?p=1273

Doing exercise is only 5% of weight loss. Food is the main reason that would help in losing weight.

Mental Health Treatment

Growing up, I never met or heard of psychiatrist or mental health.  It was until after I completed high school, started working that a friend mentioned one psychiatrist in our church.  Kenya has a population of 20 million people. I look back now and wonder how the whole community coped with calamities or adversities.  A number of years ago, there was massive rape in a girls boarding school. This was nauseating.  There were no crisis management groups to help these girls and their parents cope with the trauma. Instead, the government closed that school and sent all the girls home to their parents.  http://weightlossandculture.com/?p=1249

Salmon Preparation

Many of  you might know how salmon fish is very expensive.  Salmon is the best fish which has omega 3. I bought one today for $21.00. OK, if salmon is this expensive, there are ways you can subsidize with other things. This is how I prepared:
1 packet of salmon
Cut into small square pieces
Pour red wine and let it stand for 5 mins
Sprinkle different spices
Bake for 350 degrees for 60 minutes.

This should be enough for one week for one person or three days for a family of three.

Side dish can include salad mixed with nuts and other herbs
